This is a celestial globe by Nicholas Bion , a prominent Parisian instrument maker and publisher whose popular works were translated into many European languages. He was a keen astronomer and recorded sun spot activity as early as 1699.
This 13 inch diameter celestial has been coloured by hand and gently aged. It is presented on a turned wooden stand with an ebonized finish. The aged brass arm holds the globe at 23.5 degrees, to replicate the angle of the earth's axis.
Papier mache, plaster, printed map, brass arm and wooden stand.
Dimensions: 13" diameter globe, overall height 74cm.
